Market Garden: Tomatoes and Peppers
Mollie’s Organic Market Garden
We at Mollie’s Organics depend on access to the very best, freshest ingredients.
We create some wonderful savory breads and pastries, and we used to be dependent on the local produce. Often, there were ingredients we just couldn’t find, so we decided to grow our own.
Behind the bakery we have a few hundred square feet of growing space, including screened grow houses and greenhouses. From our own gardens we harvest an amazing volume of organic produce we use in our bakes.
We’ve decided that the best tomato ever grown is the Berkeley Tie Dye. You can’t miss it in the photo: striped skin and a navel! It produced tomatoes early, is last to stop producing in the Fall, and has a rich flavor we love. It works in salads and baked goods equally well. Sure, we like the Kellogg Breakfast tomato too, but the Berkeley Tie Dye is the best in our opinion.
Peppers are another crop we can’t live without; we grow picante peppers and mild Shishito peppers for grilling. We use only those crops when they’re in season, and sometimes a season is only 10 days long. If you want to add some variety to your table, we suggest you grow your own vegetables (even in pots!) as it’s worth it!
