Wine country Wedding
Dessert table for an evening reception in a barn
Late in 2017, the Tubbs fire in northern California burned through vineyards, tasting rooms and left devastation in its wake.
Wedding venues were torched and burned to the ground, and we were tasked with creating an entire dessert and wedding cake ensemble with only three weeks before the wedding was to take place.
The bride was a dream to work with. She knew what she wanted, but left the entire design to us: it was to be golden and romantic, yet rustic, with the reception being held in one of the last venues in the wine country: a barn that could hold her entire wedding party.
We went to work immediately.
We settled on 3 distinct cakes, as the bride and groom liked different flavors; we made a black and gold groom’s cake, with gold details to match the men’s tuxedos. The bride’s cake was chocolate, wrapped in white fondant lace we made to match her dress, the white flowers on the top matching her bouquet. The third cake was a small gift from us: a cake frosted to look like a birch log, topped with black sesame macarons. This was a wedding where the cake took second place to the other sweets: custom Pumpkin Spice French macarons (and 6 other flavors as well!); dozens of harvest themed mini-cupcakes; large cupcakes for the wedding party, decorated to match their tuxedos and the bridesmaids dresses. The theme was rustic, glamorous and “harvest” so there were cornucopias of fruit and spices to add interest and flavor. The mother of the bride preferred fruit to cake, so we provided fresh berries in a crystal bowl that she could keep as a memento. All completed within 3 weeks, delivered on site, and arranged on a 16’ dessert table.
